2006 Cayman S ‘3.8 Swap’

The stock 987 Cayman S is a star performer right out of the box, but this example raises the bar significantly by borrowing a 3.8L flat-6 out of a 911 S of the same vintage. Completed when new, we can’t help but wonder if Porsche might have caught wind of this project and used the idea as a launching pad for the Cayman GT4 (which came nearly a decade later). Benefitting from a lighter and more balanced chassis than its bigger brother, this 987 likely delivers a phenomenal driving experience and we can’t help but admire it.
